Preventive Dentistry in Denton, TX

As the name suggests, preventive dentistry is all about preventing dental disease and problems either before they arise, or before they become more serious. At Denton Oak Dentistry, we want to help your patients have their best smiles and preventive dentistry plays a huge part in that.

Why Preventive Dental Care Is Important

Investing in preventive dental care is investing in your health. When you take steps to keep your teeth and gums healthy from the get go, you’re increasing your chances of avoiding cavities, gum disease, and other dental concerns. Plus, you’re reducing your risk of health problems that are associated with poor oral health like heart disease and diabetes. Rather than having to spend extra time and money in the future dealing with serious issues, it’s easier (and less stressful!) to regularly visit the dentist for routine preventive dentistry.

Types of Preventive Dental Services

Denton Oak Dentistry offers a number of preventive dental services. We invite you to make an appointment at our practice so Dr. Phee and our team can help you maintain a healthy smile.

Dental Cleanings & Exams

You should aim to get a dental cleaning and exam every six months in order to keep up with good oral hygiene. During these checkups, we’ll perform a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health, take necessary dental X-rays, provide a professional dental cleaning, and conduct an oral cancer screening.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride helps keep teeth strong by remineralizing the enamel. Tooth enamel is essential for keeping out damaging acid. While many people get enough fluoride from their city’s water supply and from fluoride toothpastes and mouth rinses, some people require professional fluoride treatment.

Sealants

Sealants essentially seal off the small grooves on top of the back teeth so that bacteria can’t get stuck there and lead to cavities. These are particularly beneficial for children who may have a difficult time fully cleaning those hard-to-reach areas.

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards are used to protect your teeth during contact sports and at night if you grind your teeth (a condition called bruxism). They can even be used to treat sleep apnea. We custom design mouth guards so they fit comfortably.
